Bollywood Wedding Movies

The Indian Hindi film industry has always been fascinated with Indian weddings and these films have always had a loyal audience. One of the most popular genre of Bollywood films, wedding movies have captivated us for years and for good reason. Weddings as we know are full of emotions both happy and sad, excitement, lots of activity and often come with a healthy dose of drama. They make a lovely setting for all kinds of movies - comedy, drama, passionate, sappy and sad.

More often than not there is handsome young ‘hero’, and a beautiful ‘heroine’ who fall in love, fight with villainous relatives, face many an unforeseen obstacle and eventually tie the knot surrounded by teary family and of course are serenaded by many an elaborate song (all within a span of approximately 2 to 3 hours!). What better way to unwind during the busy wedding planning stages than with a masala filled tearjerker! These films are normally an extravaganza in terms of both music and the star cast...definitely a treat for your wedding occupied mind. If you don’t quite know what to watch, here’s a list of some of the most beloved Bollywood Wedding movies:

1. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge

2. Vivah

3. Kabhi Kabhi

4. Monsoon Wedding

5. Hum Apke Hai Kaun

6. Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum

7. Silsila

8. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

9. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam

10. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

11. Band Baja Baraat

You can expect over the top sets and scheme filled romances in these films. Crying one minute and coochie-cooing the next , they are so enjoyable to watch. Hindi movies based on marriages are often over dramatic and filled with random songs and dances....but that’s the fun! They are a great break from the reality of planning a wedding and the decision making that has the potential to drive you up the wall. Besides, the melodrama that’s being played out onscreen makes your own concerns look so very trivial! Many of the latest trends in bridal wear and jewellery is inspired from such movies too and can give you fresh ideas for your own wedding wardrobe. So, curl up on your couch, grab a big bowl of popcorn and take a break from your own chaos while you enjoy the chaos on screen.
