First Dance at Reception

We have had an increased number of couples these days interested in ideas for their special First Dance. This dance at the reception is traditionally a must at Wedding Receptions around the world – and now gaining popularity in India. The couple usually practices with a choreographer for weeks or months before the reception to perfect their show stopping performance.

Most couples choose to do a traditional waltz, although some may opt for a foxtrot or even salsa if they are adventurous enough! A popular trend for a while which we had many couples opt for, was a waltz to a slow tempo song and then a sudden shift into a pumping Bollywood song of their choice. This ensures a fun element in the dance and also gets all the guests to join in. It also helps kickstart the party! One important point for brides to keep in mind – is the style of your dress. Remember that you are usually in comfortable clothes and shoes when you practice, so on the day, your gown and heels shouldn’t hamper your performance. A good idea is to do a dress rehearsal prior to the day!

What has made this even more popular now is the upcoming Royal Wedding. The famous dancers, Sandip Soparrkar and Jesse Randhawa have been asked to perform a Bollywood Waltz. Sandip says it will be a blend of the classic English Waltz with the essence and spice of Bollywood. He also mentioned that it will be a four-minute routine, with song tracks from famous Bollywood films. We can’t wait to see what this is all about – we are sure it will kick off another trend for receptions worldwide!
