So we recently had one of our couples who went to Langkawi in Malaysia for their honeymoon. Here are our thoughts…
Langkawi is an ideal destination for a romantic honeymoon as it is blessed with breathtaking views, lush green hills, mysterious caves, picturesque paddy fields, sunny sandy beaches and swaying coconut trees. It also has a rich cultural history; its many native legends endow it with a unique mystic charm. You will find heaps of tourist resorts, nestled amongst spectacular hills that offer special honeymoon packages catering to various client preferences and budget necessities.
When on a honeymoon, the both of you will want to do exciting things together. This creates a sense of partnership and bonding. Here is a list of things you can do together as a newly-wed couple in Langkawi.
Spa Treatments. Most resorts offer exclusive spa treatment packages to newlyweds. These special health treatment packages include private couple’s massage treatments using natural products. Opt for treatments that aim to provide a relaxing and sensual experience.
Sightseeing. Go on the tourist route with your spouse and learn about the native legends and folklore associated with them. Dataran Lang also known as Eagle Square, Geleria Perdana, Lagenda Park, and Makam Mahsuri are quite interesting.
Want to try something more adventurous? Explore few of the enigmatic caves in the region. At Gua Cerita (Cave Of Stories) you can see paintings believed to be created by the ancestors of the aborigines of Australia. Exploring exotic marine life is another wonderful experience you can share as a couple. Pulau Payar Marine Park is an excellent location for snorkelling, with beautiful coral reefs and exquisite marine creatures found exclusively in this area.
You can indulge in water sports like water surfing and water skiing as well.
Bird watching. Check out some rare bird species in the region with your spouse. Langkawi Bird Park is an excellent site for bird watching. You can find great souvenirs here. Other popular bird watching sites include Pulau Dayang Bunting and Pulau Intan Besar. The staff at your tourist resort will be able to arrange for a knowledgeable guide to escort you on your bird watching trip if you like.
Shopping. Langkawi enjoys a ‘Duty Free’ status. You will find some great bargains here on items like electronic gadgets, chocolates and perfumes!
Night market. Remember to check out the famous Night Market (Pasar Malam). The night market opens each day at a different location between 5.30pm to 10.00pm. Talk to the resort staff to find out the exact location of the night market the day you decide to visit. The night market is known for stalls selling numerous kinds of eatables and knickknacks. Your honeymoon experience will be incomplete without eating out at one of these stalls. You can also strike great bargain deals on traditional art and crafts.
With the numerous options available in Langkawi, you can choose to just relax on a beach or do something a bit more adventurous. Either way, you will enjoy the time spent together as a couple in this tropical paradise.
